Henry "Duke" Turrentine, son of the late Veola Yates, was born December 29, 1942 and departed this life on February 25, 2023. Henry was educated in the Durham County School System, continuing his education at Durham College.
He enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1963, during which time he traveled to many foreign countries. Retiring 20 years later in 1983 with the rank of TSgt. He loved being in the Air Force, having had no qualm about being transferred from one base to another. Often spoke about the experiences he encountered while serving his country. While stationed in England he met and married the love of his life, Carethia Spencer, a State Registered Nurse.
Duke also worked and retired from Chapel Hill Transit as a bus driver. Up until his death he would meet every Friday with other retirees at Hardees, they would have coffee and chat enjoying each other's company. He never missed a meeting unless it was for medical reasons.
Duke attended Bible Study at Reconcile of Jesus Christ Christian Church, where he accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. There, his love of Jesus Christ grew as he studied the Word. He loved the Word so much that he couldn't wait to discuss what he had read when he returned to the next class.
Duke leaves to cherish his memory, his loving and caring wife Carethia, his daughter Shorna and two granddaughters Eva and Arin, goddaughter Vanness Farrington (preceding him in death), a host of relatives and friends.
