Mr. Johnnie Robinson Obituary

Johnnie Joseph Robinson, affectionately known as Suttcake, was born on May 7, 1945 to Willie and Beatrice Chavis Robinson, in Chapel Hill, NC. He departed this earthly life at the age of 76, on February 13, 2022 at Duke Regional Hospital in Durham, NC.

Johnnie’s first love was God, which kept him constantly reading, listening to, and seeking God’s Word. His second love was his family. One of his greatest joys was spending time with his children and grandchildren. He also loved reconnecting with distant cousins and former schoolmates. Thirdly, he loved cooking. He spent 20+ years learning and working under various chefs, and then running his own kitchens. He never lost his love for cooking, and was always happy to share his culinary knowledge, and meals he prepared, with others. Quite a few people attribute their culinary success to him. Johnnie was a huge sports fan. In his school days, he participated in football, track, and wrestling. In his later years he enjoyed watching both college and professional football and basketball, and spent many weekends attending college football games. Johnnie was always down for a road trip, especially if that road led to the beach.

Johnnie was preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Beatrice, five sisters, Charlotte, Emma, Louvina, Hallie, and Frances, four brothers, Willie Louis, Carl, William, and James, one aunt, Ms. Jennie Chavis, and one nephew, Terrence “Snap” Robinson.

Johnnie leaves behind to cherish his memory, three daughters: Tara Robinson Taylor, Shadae Carrington, both of Durham, NC, and Bianca Carrington (James) of Greensboro, NC; three sons: Johnnie Carrington, Tyrell Carrington, and Antonio Hunter, of Durham, NC; nine grandchildren: Janyiah, Larry III, Levi, Melodi, James Jr., Grace, Jai’rell, Harmony, and Amir; four brothers: John Robinson (Sarah) of Edwards, NC, Richard Robinson (Leola) of Chapel Hill, NC, Clifton Robinson of Roxboro, NC, and Arthur “Toby” Robinson, of Burlington, NC; One sister, Ednetta Robinson of Chapel Hill, NC, one sister-in-love, Janeria “Nessie” Robinson of Chapel Hill, NC; one devoted first cousin, Jesse Chavis (Brenda) of Durham, NC, three treasured friends: Ms. Barbara Hunt, Miss. Renee Hunter, and Ms. Rashii Purefoy; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
