Leander Stroud (best known as Lea) was born February 11, 1944, to the late Sam Walter and Nellie Ruth Stroud in Chatham County. Lea attended and graduated from Horton High School in Pittsboro North Carolina. He continued his education at Forrest City Community College receiving a certificate as a certified carpenter.
Lea worked as a carpenter and then moved to be supervisor at the Physical Plant and Carmichael Gym, until his retirement. Lea was good at his work and continued after retirement with his own business until his health would no longer allow him to do the work.
Lea was a lover of music. He played drums in high school and later taught himself to play the base guitar. He played in many groups around the Chapel Hill area. He later was the founder of the Gospel Searchers where he enjoyed his time until his health failed him. Lea also taught many young boys to play drums. Again, he truly enjoyed his time in the music ministry.
Lea leaves to cherish his memories; his loving wife Jeanie, five children, Sandra Stroud of Apex, Leander Stroud (Angie) of Apex, Christopher Stroud of Chapel Hill, Shekita Gillis of Chapel Hill, and Felton Farrington of Chapel Hill. Three brothers Otis Stroud of Chapel Hill, Isaiah Stroud of Chapel Hill, Freddie Stroud of Durham. One sister Arletha Mashake of Wake Forest, and one sister in-law Linda Stroud of Chapel Hill. Nine grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.
