Leroy Griffin Jr. "Barry" was born September 9, 1963 to Mr. Leroy Griffin, and Mamie Lois Eubanks Griffin in Orange County, Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Leroy Jr. departed his earthly life in the sweet arms of Jesus on June 18, 2022.
Barry as he was fondly called most of his life, was a happy and funny person, and was kind to all that he met. No one was a stranger to him. He possessed a strong spirit of gladness in his daily activities, where he tried to keep a smile on his face.
Barry was united in marriage to Kyla Rountree in November 2021. He joined Deliverance Tabernacle Fellowship at an early age under the leadership of Bishop Georgia Ruth Riley. He was active in Sunday School and was a part of the Little Voices Of Deliverance Children's Choir.
Barry was an entrepreneur at the early age of 6, he started his own business selling eggs with his Uncle J.P. Alston on weekends. He had a natural sense and creativeness
for business, whereas a young man, he wanted to be his own boss, a self-employed man and made the decision to step out on faith and opened his own tee shirt shop. It was all success after that where he knew he had discovered his calling.
Barry started working at Vine Veterinary hospital at age 9. He enjoyed taking care of animals. His duties included walking the dogs, and cleaning out the cages, and feeding the animals. Barry continued to work at Vines during the summer months up until after high school. He retired from Vines in 2021 with 40 years of service.
He was very successful in all of his ventures and enjoyed his work. Barry was fun loving and could talk his way out of anything. He had an awesome gift of music in his heart where he learned to plays drums at an early age of 12. He possessed unconditional love for family and friends. He was also a talented vocalist.
Barry attended Chapel Hill High School and was a graduate of the Class of 1987. In his senior year, Barry was cast as one of the main characters in the whiz, where he played the great and powerful Oz. He earned a BS degree from North Carolina Central University in Durham, NC.
Barry leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife Kyla; his daughter Lauren Satterfield Lennon; two sons Blake Griffin (Raleigh, NC) Bryce Griffin of (Cary, NC); and his stepson, Quentin Rountree. Barry has three sisters: Bernita Griffin, Bonnie Rogers (Doug) and Brenda Swann (James); Aunts: Mary Lois Eubanks(Roy), Betty Harris (Joe), Mae Francis Buster (All Freddie), Joyce Newby, Margaret Eubanks; Uncles: Sylvester Eubanks, Claude Eubanks, Nathanial Eubanks Jr., Odell Eubanks, Ervin Eubanks, Danny Eubanks, Howard Eubanks, Bobby Eubanks, and Anthony Eubanks. Nieces: Mechi Holt (Larry), Shenette Swann, Toya Smith, Liz Hines, and "Bookie" Eubanks. Nephews: James Eric Jones, Tyler Jones, Tray Holt and Cameron Farrar; and a host of other relatives and friends. God Father- Bishop Jimmy Nixon; Spiritual Mother- Bishop Georgia Ruth Riley; God Mother- Ms. Margaret Eubanks; Fellowship of Friends: Doug Skip Clark, Orlando Clark, Denard Earl, Tim Degraffenreidt, Robert Green, Rodney Headen, Mitchell Hines, Rodney Jordon, Wade Lee Jr, Robert Walker, David Wells, and a host of other friends and relatives.
