Melvin Parrish Jr was born on July 24, 1979, in Wake County, North Carolina to Melvin Parrish Sr. and Annie Faulcon Parrish. Melvin, quietly and suddenly, departed his earthly life and transcended into eternal rest on Friday April 15, 2022, in his home.
Melvin accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior at an early age and continued on his spiritual journey into his transition.
Melvin received his early education in the Chapel Hill Carrboro School System and he graduated from Chapel Hill High School with the class of 1997. He continued his education at North Carolina A&T University in Greensboro, North Carolina. While there, he studied mechanical engineering.
After leaving college, Melvin returned to Chapel Hill with the goal of creating his own trucking company. He initially worked with other truckers and eventually created Parrish Trucking Company. Later, Parrish Trucking Company joined Parrish Brothers Grading and Excavating Company to form Parrish Farms where he worked with his dad and uncle, continuing to do land development, trucking and farming. While working with Parrish Farms, Melvin made many lasting friendships as well as business relationships.
Melvin was affectionately called “Big Mel” and sometime described as a “Gentle Giant”. He was large in physical presence, and he had a big heart, big smile and a hearty laugh. He loved life, his family, and his friends. He also loved hunting, fishing, dirt bike riding, grilling meats, and working on automobiles especially older ones.
To continually cherish his beautiful memory, Melvin leaves his parents, Melvin Parrish Sr. and Annie Faulcon Parrish; one sister, Alayna Parrish of Chapel Hill NC; one brother, Phillip Curtis (Keisha) of Chapel Hill NC; a cousin who was like a brother, Leonard White Jr. of Chapel Hill NC; two nephews, Isaiah Curtis and Gabriel Curtis of Chapel Hill; and a host of special aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and friends.
