Peace I leave with you; my peace I give unto you. I do not give you as the
world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled; and do not let it be afraid.
John 14:27
On Friday, July 15, 2022, Bill Farrington, son of the late Katherine Council and Frank Alston, became the beneficiary of one of God's promises: "to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord." In addition to his parents, Bill was reunited with his beloved baby brother, Odell Council, Jr.
Bill was educated in the Orange County Public Schools. He joined Hamlet Chapel CME Church at an early age and remained a member until his death. After serving in the US Army, Bill worked for the Johnson-Strowd-Ward Company for more than 10 years. Upon leaving the company, he was employed by the University of North Carolina, where he retired after 24 years of service.
Although Bill remained on dialysis for 22 years, he enjoyed life to the fullest. He was an amazing encouragement to dialysis staff and patients at UNC Dialysis Center in Carrboro, NC. He looked forward to his treatments joking and laughing with everyone; and, of course, spreading the gossip of the day. He would often remind patients that their lives come first, dialysis is just a part of it!
Bill was a fighter. Despite being critically ill, he never gave up the hope and determination to regain his health and return to his home in Carrboro. He loved gospel music; the medical staff at UNC Hospital played his favorite station every day.
Left to cherish his memory are his daughters: Gwendolyn Fleming (Jeffery), Lisa Battle (Darrell), and Nia Riggsbee; six grandchildren: Anneca Raines, Jeffery Fleming, Jordan Fleming, Chloe Raines, Joey Raines and Britney Riggsbee; three sisters: Ruby Simons (Bruce), Saundra Dockery and Carolyn Reams; one brother: Kenneth Farrington; one uncle: Joe Farrington, three aunts: Bertha Mitchell, Rosa Farrington and Catherine Minor; and a host of other treasured relatives and friends.
Our joys will be greater; our love will be deeper; our lives will be fuller;
because we shared your moment.
