Mr. Robert William "Larry" Degraffenreid

Robert William Degraffenreid was born in Chapel Hill, North Carolina on June 30, 1954 to the late Charlie Mae Harrington. Larry, as he was known to family and friends, was educated in the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City School District. He was a 1972 graduate of Chapel Hill High School. After graduation, Larry went to work in construction, where he worked on and off, until he began his career with Chapel Hill Transit. He remained there until his early retirement. In 2001 Larry married the late Sonja Manning. Together they raised four children, and saw the birth of their five grandchildren. 

Larry was an avid sports lover. He could often be found cheering on his beloved Cowboys and Tar Heels. Larry also loved fishing, and he passed his passion for fishing on to his nephews and sons. He always kept his bait and tackle box in the trunk of his car- always ready in case he came upon a good spot for fishing. A music lover, Larry had a vast collection of albums and cd's, and could always be found in the middle of the dance floor.

On December 13, 2021, Larry was called home to be with the Lord. He leaves to cherish his children Shari (Brian), Sharkari (PJ), Michael, and Shane; grandchildren Jasiah, Kamaya, Aniyah, Amari, and Michael Jr; brother Barry; nephews Victor, and William; niece Tasha; aunt Ellen; as well as a host of other family and friends.
