Mr. Roland Clifton “Toby” Burnette

Mr. Roland C. Burnette, affectionately known by his family as “Toby” was born in Orange County, July 23, 1955, to Alice Davis and the late Roland Burnette, Sr.

God peacefully called him home to his eternal resting place on Saturday, December 10, 2022.

He received his education in the Chatham County School System. Toby was employed by OWASA water treatment plant in Carrboro, NC for 30+ years and most recently at Hydromax USA as a field supervisor in Virginia.

Toby was married to Vanessa Faye Farrington and to this union a beautiful baby girl was born, Emily Burnette.

He joined Haw River Baptist Church at an early age and drove his grandparents to church when their health began to decline.

Toby was an avid Tarheel fan and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Toby will always be remembered for his sense of humor, his love for traveling, being a stickler for working out, staying physically fit and as a food connoisseur as he loved trying different types of food. Toby had a special bond with his nephews in Hopewell, VA. They referred to him as “Chuck” and he referred to them as the “boys club”. Toby was loved and admired by many and will be missed.

Toby was preceded in death by his father, Roland Burnette, Sr.; grandparents who raised him, Jack and Emma Burnette and his brother-in-law, Johnny Scurlock.

Toby was survived by his wife, Vanessa Faye Burnette; daughter, Emily Burnette of Cary, NC; son, Corey Hill of Moncure, NC; grandchildren, Ariana Hill and Marcus Hill; mother, Alice Davis Holley, Chapel Hill, NC; four sisters, Billie Scurlock (LeVan) of Hopewell, VA, Germaine Burnette of Durham, NC, Jackie Burnette of Chapel Hill, NC and Rhuna Holley of Atlanta, GA; three aunts, Mae Ruth Seymore, Annie Clements, Clarine Hyman; one uncle, John Ray Davis; a very special cousin, Steven Chavis (Idania) of Atlanta, GA; a very special friend, Christina Joy Vaughn of Hampton, VA; six nieces; one nephew; six great nephews; four great nieces; a host of special cousins, other relatives and friends.
