Mr. Russell Stewart Garrett Jr.

Mr. Russell Stewart Garrett Jr. was born on December 25, 1954.  He is the oldest child born to the union of the late Russell Garrett Sr. and Faye Garrett. Russell claimed the  space prepared for him in heaven on September 18, 2023. 

Russell graduated from Chapel Hill Senior High School in 1974. As a young man he developed a passion for cars.  He loved his Charger with the Hemi engine. As Russell got older he enjoyed doing automotive body work.  This was a skill that he learned from his father. Russell was a retiree from the Chapel Hill Carrboro City schools as well Chapel Hill Parks and Recreation. Russell loved singing. He was a member of the 100 Men in Black and a notable wedding singer in our area. Russell was a former member of AMMI Lodge #15 Scottish Right.

Russell was a member of First Baptist Church.  When his health allowed you would find him sitting in the back in his chair enjoying the service. Russell was one that didn’t complain.  He fought his health battles with charm and grace. He would give you his all and do anything for anyone.

Russell was preceded in death by his father, Russell Garrett Sr and his baby sister Ernestine Garrett. He leaves to cherish his memory his six children: Shanicca Booth, Rhashii Booth(Charrissa), Kokitha Mitchell, Sheena Hooker(Tony), Ryan Garrett and Ronald Garrett; his mother Faye Garrett,  his sisters: Jacqueline Feaster(James), Robin Brown, Christine Garrett; his brothers: Adolphus Garrett(Amy), Donnell Garrett(Jane),and Dennis Garrett. Eight grandkids, DJ Covington-Booth, Alexis Alston, Jaylin Booth, Diamond Alston, Aaliyah Hooker, Dallas Booth, James Hooker and Daxton Booth.  Two great grandchildren, 13 nieces and nephews, 20 great nieces and nephews, and three great great nieces and nephews. 

Later in life Russell was blessed to meet his fiancee, Angela Kimble. Russell lived his best life with Angela.  He and Angela traveled and enjoyed life to the fullest as long as his health would allow.
