Mr. Samuel Odell Byrd lived 76 years on this Earth. And on October 17th, 2023, his body, mind, and spirit transitioned to freedom. Sam was the youngest son of the late Robert and Mattie Byrd of Sanford, NC. He was preceded in death by his 7 brothers and only sister.
Sam, or “PaPa” as he was affectionately called by those close to him, was seen all over the triangle repairing cars, sharing wisdom, or passing along life advice. He drove his own tractor-trailer for many years. Later, he worked for B&B Towing, Big Valley Auto, and a number of local automotive shops. He was a whiz with cars, obtaining official certifications from Volvo & Honda. Sam also had a knack for gardening, planting and growing, sowing and reaping.
Sam spent many hours discussing the Bible with friends and family. Although he may not have been religious, he was a man of faith and moved through his life with two mottos: “treat people like you want to be treated” and “be patient, everything happens in time”. If you knew Sam, you knew he was not in a hurry to do things, but he was quick to pause and think things through – before offering advice or making a move. Papa loved Jehovah, people, fishing, cars, music, playing his guitars, laughing and simply being himself.
If you knew Sam, you knew a great man. You also have a story to tell, because no doubt, he told you one or two every time you saw him. He was a fixer and a giver. He was a patient man, living with good intentions toward everyone he met. If he could help you, he did.
He leaves to cherish and honor his life, his wife of 57 years, Mrs. Nannie “Anne” Byrd. His love and devotion to her was Jehovah ordained, and to their union, two children were born, Samuel Anthony “T-Byrd” Byrd (deceased) and Angela Denise Byrd. He also leaves 2 Grand-daughters Shaylei Keanne and Ellanya Shanise. 2 great-grandchildren, Marley Faith and Kairo Awesome. He leaves a host of loved ones, family and friends to cherish his memory and honor his legacy.
