Mr. Walter Lane Jr. Obituary

WALTER GLENDON LANE, JR. son of the late Walter and Lucile Lane was born September 13,1929 in Randolph County Asheboro, NC. He was the oldest of seven children. Walter departed this life on April 21, 2020.

Walter grew up in Asheboro and attended the Randolph County school which was located in the community where he grew up. He purchased a Harley Davidson motorcycle, which he enjoyed riding and traveling with his motorcycle friends. He was an avid sports person. He would go from one tv channel to the other in order to keep up with game scores, especially baseball and football. After moving to Chapel Hill, he became a solid supporter of the UNC Tar Heels, win or lose, attending the local games.

He was employed at University of North Carolina, in Chapel Hill, for 29 years in several jobs, later retiring with the campus mail center. He retired from active service as an exemplary employee from the State of North Carolina, October 3,1991. After his retirement, his time was spent helping out in his church, O'Bryant Chapel AMEZion of Chapel Hill, NC.

He volunteered as church sector. He was a member of the men's choir which he enjoyed. He joined the usher ministry, a position he held faithfully until his health interfered with standing. Walter was appointed to the Church Trustee Board and worked faithfully at that position also. He proudly called his town of Carrboro, NC, his home. Walter was preceded in death by two of his brothers, Grady Lane, and Johnnie Lane, and a sister, Helen Ray Lane Gill.

Special memories of Walter will be cherished by his wife, Dazzie Lee, "honey bunny" his daughters, Vanessa and Beth Lane, A special Friend, Jimmy Ray Spencer. His brothers, Walter (Cynthia),and Thomas (Ann) Lane. of Jackson Spring, NC. sister, Mrs. Willie Mae Lane Steele, of Mt. Gilead, NC. A special Nephew James Nathan Gill, III (Jewel) of Houston,Texas, and a host of other Nephews, and Special nieces. Sister-in laws, Catherine Lane of Carrboro, NC., Rev. Dora Bowens of Asheboro, NC, Loretta McQueen of Greensboro, NC, Ms. Charlotte Isom of Bowie, MD, Mrs. Cassandra Schatzman (Steve) of Mechanicsville, MD and Revondra McQueen of Lanham, MD.
