Emma Lois Clark Council, daughter of the late Margaret Louise Greene-Clark and Marvin Henry Clark, was born on August 25, 1953. She departed her life on Friday, July 15, 2092, at UNC Hospital, surrounded by her family. She is preceded in death by her three sisters: Terry Lee Clark, Annie Elizabeth Farrow, Judy Levon Clark Goins and nephew Stirling Nathaniel Clark.
The majority of her high school education was obtained within the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools system; she also completed a portion of her educational career at Lincoln High School. Regarding employment, first, she worked at the student union for several years. Later, she devoted a few years to working as a crossing guard for Estes Fills Elementary School while employed with the Chapel Hill Police Department. Lastly, she worked for Granville Towers in Chapel Hill until her health began to decline.
Her hobbies included cooking, playing games, talking junk with friends, family, and the Rent-A-Center family, laughing, and swing dancing with her sister Judy. However, she was most passionate about caring for her beloved husband of 36 years, Melvin Council Sr. She was faithful and devoted to her friends, family, and church family. She took solace in feeding individuals in her community and never hesitated to give her last to anyone in need. She had a heart of gold and treated any child with whom she came in contact as her own. She allowed her home to be a sanctuary for those seeking peace and always had a room available for anyone who needed shelter. She always ensured equal treatment of anyone who entered her home.
She leaves to cherish her memory her beloved husband, Melvin Council Sr, and five children: Emmily Council (Charles), Melvin Council (Frenshell), Lamarius Council, Paressa Moses, and Rico Moses; Kevin Perry and James Smith are two individuals whom she cared for, helped to raise, and loved as her own, three sisters: Stella Chesney (Reverend Jerry) of Sanford, NC, Vanessa Obie of Graham, NC, Sondra Woods (Ray) of Burlington, NC, ten grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, two best friends Darlene Snipes and Iantha Sutherland, and a host of nieces and nephews. She was very loving with the best sense of humor complimented by the most contagious laugh. Her gracious love and generosity will truly be missed.
