Mrs. Mary Taylor Obituary

Mary Louise Banks Taylor, second of thirteen children of the late Milford and late Louise Brockington Banks, was born on September 11, 1930, in Enfield, North Carolina. On Saturday, May 20, 2023, Mary answered the triumphant call of her Heavenly Father and transitioned from this earthly labor to her heavenly reward.

Mary grew up in Enfield where she attended school in Halifax County. Being the second oldest, Mary had to work to help her parents financially. Mary married her husband, Jack and they moved to Williamston, NC to raise their children, and then moved to Pittsboro, NC in 1970 after buying a house.

Mary was employed by UNC-Chapel Hill in the Housekeeping Department and retired after 30 years of service. Mary joined Haw River Baptist Church where she faithfully served, until her illness, as an usher, member of the choir, and kitchen committee.

Mary's hobbies included singing, sewing, and meeting people. She loved to talk and loved her church family. She liked being named the queen of the events.

Mary will always be remembered as a hardworking mother who instilled honesty and a strong work ethic in her children. She could find good in everyone she encountered and was willing to help anyone. We are thankful that Mama taught us to love God and to be respectful.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Taylor; sons, John and Charlie; daughter, Louise Banks Stroud; brothers, Daniel, Willie, and Haywood; sisters, Eloise, Rosa, and Maybelle. Cherishing her memory are five children, Carlotta Banks Armstrong, Chapel Hill, NC; William Earl Taylor, Pittsboro, NC; Lula Taylor, Mebane, NC; Herman (Sabrina) Taylor, Winston Salem, NC; James (Denah) Taylor, Pittsboro, NC; five Sisters; Mattie Williams, Enfield, NC; Lillie Jane Patterson, Hampton, VA; Odell (Harry) Mumford, Kinston, NC; Carol (Vernon) Baltimore, MD; Delois Banks (Ben) Byrd, Enfield, NC; Cathy Banks, Enfield, NC; Special nephew, Henry Lee (Doretha) Banks, Enfield, NC; an Aunt, Ida Caulker, High Point, NC; seven grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, two great-great-great grandchildren, sister in-laws, Bessie Mae Banks, Knightdale, NC; and Dorothy Banks, Rocky Mount, NC: and a host of other relatives and friends.
