Ms. Phyllis Ann Clark

Phyllis Ann Clark was born June 29th, 1957 to the late Howard and Zelphia (Peggy) Clark. Phyllis departed this life on July 13th, 2023 at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill, NC.

Phyllis was a member at the Church of God in Pittsboro, NC, the church of her mother. Phyllis also shared her mother’s spirit and love of cooking, which she shared frequently with family, friends, and coworkers. A lover of life and a kind-hearted soul, she spent her days caring for others as her own in words and in deeds, valuing family in all ways.

Phyllis graduated from Northwood High School in 1975. Upon completing high school, Phyllis attended Central Carolina Technical College and earned an associate degree in accounting. Phyllis began working at UNC Laundry and Chatham Mill before gaining employment at North Carolina Memorial Hospital (UNC Hospital) where she worked until her retirement in 2019. During her employment at UNC, she met numerous coworkers, friends, and Thomas Thornton, whom she later married. To that matrimony, their daughter Shondréa Nicole Thornton was born. Phyllis also met and developed a special friendship with coworker Teresa Renee Roberts, who became an adoptive daughter. Teresa was by Phyllis and Nicole to the very end.

Phyllis’ son Michael Shondell Clark and sister Lena Brown preceded her in death and welcome her home. Phyllis leaves to cherish her memories: Daughter: Shondréa Nicole Thornton Siblings: William (Joy) Gattis, Wilma Gattis, Howard Clark, Jr., Wanda (Bobby) Fearrington, Norman (Lynn) Clark Nieces: GeNae Baldwin, Enjoli Burnette, Miranda Brown, Brianna Clark, and Alexis Fearrington. Nephews: Gerald Brittan, Joseph Brown, Kevin Brown, and Derek Clark. Uncle: Harold Denny. Aunt: Daisy Denny. Adoptive Daughters: Renee Roberts and Jamila Roberson (neé Wilson). Adoptive Granddaughter: Jailyn Wilson. Phyllis also leaves to cherish her memory a host of relatives and friends, to whom we are grateful.
