Polly Anna Purefoy, daughter of the late June and Daisy Purefoy, was born on August 20, 1932 in Orange County, NC and departed this life on May 16, 2022 at Litchford Falls Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Raleigh, NC.
Polly received her formative education at the Orange County Training School and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1950. She accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior at an early age, joining Hickory Grove Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend James Stewart.
In 1952, Polly moved, to Washington, DC where she later joined Isle of Patmos Baptist Church. In 1967, she had her only child, Deborah, whom she loved and cherished dearly until the end. Polly worked as a cook at various organizations including Trinity College, Gallaudet College, and station WTOP. Later, she worked in Home Health Care Services as a health aide until her move back to North Carolina.
In 1978, Polly and her daughter moved back to Chapel Hill, NC to take care of her mother. Polly later rejoined Hickory Grove Missionary Baptist Church, where she served on the Church Aid Club and the Kitchen Committee. In 2003, Polly moved to Raleigh, NC but continued to attend and support Hickory Grove as her health allowed.
Leaving to cherish her memories are her daughter, Deborah Purefoy of Raleigh, NC, nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends. The youngest of 8 children, Polly was preceded in death by 5 brothers and 2 sisters.
